Mill Lane, Reading

Welcome to the consultation website for the planned development of a new rental community in central Reading that would be developed and managed by the John Lewis Partnership. We’d really like to hear your views to help shape our proposals.

SCROLL DOWN

Given the rapid growth of the town and the enormous demand for new homes, we have an opportunity to regenerate the vacant John Lewis warehouse site, located next to the A329 and opposite the Oracle car park, to create a thriving new rental community.

Transforming such a well-connected, brownfield site would create around 200 energy-efficient homes, all of which would be managed by the John Lewis Partnership for years to come, offering residents greater security and a high level of customer service.

We are proposing a variety of community benefits, including affordable housing, improved public realm, new public spaces and community partnerships. We are keen to have your input on what else we can do to ensure our plans make a positive difference to the local area.

We have spent the past few months consulting the local community on our proposals, and we are grateful for the feedback already received. We held a second-round consultation event on Tuesday 5 March, and have presented our updated ideas for Mill Lane on this website.

We previously held consultation events in January to present our initial proposals for the site. As part of this phase of the consultation, a webinar initially presented on 30 January regarding the initial version of the scheme is available here.

The next steps

We are keen to hear your feedback on our updated proposals. Since our initial consultation in January, we have made some significant changes to the proposed development, including increasing the amount of outdoor garden space, creating more dual-aspect apartments and refining the facade of the building. Following the current round of consultation, we will take any additional feedback on board prior to the submission of a planning application later this year.
